LAUNCESTON & NORTH

Seen from the air, the long, eastern bays of The North Coast disclose the power of the prevailing winds, The Roaring Forties, in sculpting landform and the flora endemic to it; while also demonstrating climatic differences to the more westerly reaches of the north, which receive greater rainfall.

Launceston sits enfolded within its valley at the confluence of the South Esk and North Esk Rivers into the tidal waters of the Tamar, as the port servicing the agricultural, pastural and lumber getting industries of the northern midlands of the island. At a population of less than seventy thousand persons, it’s not a big city, but has a character and heart which we’ve found Launie shares gladly with those who choose to experience what’s on offer there.
